Are you a CHP resident and Dominion Energy customer? You can sign up to lower your utility bills with CHP Solar Savings.
How does the CHP Solar Savings Program work?
Dominion has a new program that is designed to give low-income households access to cheaper solar power being generated on its grid. When you enroll in the CHP Solar Savings Program, your Dominion account will receive an allocation of solar energy production equal to 100% of your historical electricity usage. This generates solar credits on your utility bill, reducing the amount you owe to Dominion.
Do I need solar panels on my roof?
No. By enrolling in the CHP Solar Savings Program, you can avoid the hassle and expense of installing solar panels. This way renters – not just homeowners – can qualify for savings too.
How much will I save?
If your average monthly Dominion bill is $110, you can expect to save an average of $11 per month. Your Dominion bill will show a reduction from the solar credits allocated to your account.
When can I expect to see savings?
You’ll start to see savings when the solar projects are completed and begin generating electricity. The projects are currently under construction and will begin operation in Fall 2023.
How long will my savings last?
You’ll receive savings for up to 25 years or until you cancel.
What happens to my utility account?
Nothing. Dominion remains your utility provider. It’s that easy!
If I’m already on an assistance program, do I qualify?
Yes, you’re eligible to receive these savings. Your participation in any existing benefit programs will not be impacted.
Are there any sign-up fees or cancellation fees?
No, it’s free to enroll, with no up-front costs. If you choose to cancel for any reason or move out of the Dominion service area, there’s no fee to cancel.
Is there a credit check or minimum credit score required to enroll?
No, the CHP Solar Savings Program does not require a minimum credit score or run a credit check as part of the enrollment process.
Is this an ESCO?
No, the CHP Solar Savings Program is not the same as a third-party retail energy supplier. You receive a credit for the value of the electricity generated on your behalf. Savings are also guaranteed for up to 25 years, unlike retail energy suppliers who offer short-term savings and can change rates often.
How else can I support renewable energy?
Enrolling in the CHP Solar Savings Program is one of the easiest things you can do – it takes only minutes and you’ll receive utility savings every month. You can also tell your friends about CHP’s Solar Savings Program so more people enroll. It’s good for their budget and our state too.
