Our Impact

2018 Community Impact Report

Dear Friends,

For Community Housing Partners (CHP), 2018 brought a continued focus on what we do best – creating and preserving healthy homes and communities for individuals and families across our six-state footprint. In addition to the impact we made within the communities we serve, 2018 stands out because it marked the completion of the first year of CHP’s 2018-2020 Strategic Plan. Developed in late 2017, CHP’s Strategic Plan lays out a three-year road map focused on four core organizational goals that have, and will always be, more important to us: our customers, our employees, our planet, and our desire to expand our impact. In order to focus on what matters most to CHP and our communities, we set only four key goals:

  • Optimize positive health and quality of life outcomes for our customers by providing healthy homes and quality of life enhancing services to our customers.
  • Be an employer of choice by investing in the success and professional development of every employee.
  • Adopt operational practices that reduce our environmental impact by reducing energy and water use in our offices and the homes we build, renovate, and own.
  • Balance profitability and asset quality to advance CHP’s mission by generating net income to invest in sustainable growth and expanded impact.

As CEO, President, and Board Chair, we used 2018 as an opportunity to refocus our efforts on these fundamental goals for our organization. We now invite you to explore the visuals and stories within our 2018 Impact Report to learn more about the work we did to achieve our goals. You’ll see and read impact stories as told through our customers and staff. We are honored to have played a role in the lives of these individuals, and we thank you for your ongoing support.

Aging in Place

It's never too late to become a homeowner. BeaAnn Hypes, a first-time homeowner in Blacksburg, Virginia, achieved her dream with help from CHP Homeownership and the Blacksburg Affordable Housing Program.

Building Community

Located in Farmville, Virginia, CHP’s Parkview Gardens Apartments has a dedicated group of resident volunteers who help plan events and foster a sense of community. These residents work closely with Pattie Cooper-Jones, who has been Parkview's Property Manager for more than 30 years.

Powered by Innovation

Located in Henrico County just east of Richmond, The Apartments at Kingsridge was CHP’s signature real estate development in 2018. It is an example of the nonprofit’s commitment to innovation:

  • CHP utilized innovative construction techniques to ensure residents live in a sustainable community. In addition to pursuing EarthCraft certification, CHP pioneered an HVAC system that filters the air to near-hospital levels using ducted mini-split Energy Recovery Ventilators.
  • The Apartments at Kingsridge was the first development to enter into an agreement with the Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority to accept project-based vouchers from the Creighton Court community in Richmond’s East End.
