The CHP Reads! Summer Reading Program returns this year for its sixth year of helping students stay sharp over the summer—and we need your help!
Early childhood education is crucial in establishing a strong foundation for lifelong learning, and reading is an essential tool in this process. That’s why we are devoting more of our funds this year toward board books especially tailored for this age group. Help us gather donations to equip residents with their own home libraries and to create and fill Little Free Libraries to benefit the entire community. With your support, we can invest in literacy and knowledge together. Thank you for your generosity!

Your generous contribution will support the purchase of book packs for young people in CHP communities, as well as buying and stocking Little Free Libraries to ensure they have access to educational materials throughout the year.
$25
Your gift of $25 can provide five book packs full of books to be distributed to young residents.
Help us build and install a Little Free Library for $500.
Little Free Library is a non-profit organization that encourages local communities to share books through public book exchanges. In most cases, these exchanges involve a small public bookcase placed in a neighborhood.
We first launched the CHP Reads! Summer Reading Program in 2019 to help young residents at its apartment communities combat summer learning loss. National research shows that the average student loses a month of academic learning every summer, but children who participate in summer reading programs like ours score higher on reading achievement tests at the beginning of the next school year.
Enrolled youth in the program receive books to read, enjoy, and keep. The program has grown significantly over the past six years, with CHP staff and volunteers handing out over 18,000 books and hosting over 100 events across 40 properties.
In 2023, the program was expanded to include seniors and grandparents, and in 2024, we are encouraging grandparents to use books to connect with the children in their lives. The program will kick off in select communities this summer during National NeighborWorks Week (June 1-8).
