The holidays are a time to create joy in the lives of others, but while there are many programs to provide children with toys and goodies under the tree, seniors are often left out. Community Housing Partners (CHP), which provides affordable and sustainable housing throughout the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic, is working to change that for its senior residents this holiday season.

Through the 2022 Warm Wishes program, CHP is offering senior residents, ages 55 and up, at 13 Virginia apartment communities with gift bags totaling around $30. CHP is seeking support from community members and organizations who want to donate to the program or pledge to purchase Warm Wishes gifts for residents.

More information about the program and how to participate is available on the Warm Wishes webpage. CHP is registering seniors for this program in October, accepting gifts and monetary donations through Dec. 1, and delivering Warm Wishes to residents the second week in December.

More than 400 seniors at CHP rental communities are eligible to receive Warm Wishes in 2022. Last year, CHP staff and volunteers served 366 senior and special needs residents for the holiday season, raising $6,100 from generous donors.

“I love giving to these residents each year,” said Tiffany Slusher, Director of Programs for CHP Resident Services. “Last year felt so much more important when I saw the things they asked for, the things we all take for granted but made their top three wishes list. Warm Wishes made me remember what this season is all about: not about the stuff but about the people and remember to give to all.”

All the participating CHP rental communities are in Virginia and include Belleville Meadows Apartments in Suffolk, Bettie Davis Apartments in Suffolk, Bluegrass Apartments in Pulaski, Cedar Crest Apartments in Blacksburg, Ellett Road Community in Blacksburg, Galax Apartments in Galax, Grayson Manor Apartments in Independence, Greenstone on 5th Apartments in Charlottesville, Hollybrook Apartments in Richmond, Northway Apartments in Galax, Old Orchard Apartments in Pearisburg, The Warwick Apartments in Newport News, and Wytheville Community Apartments in Wytheville.
