Pattie Cooper-Jones, Lee Dodd, and Kiki NusbaumerPlease introduce yourself and share a bit about your background in property management.

My name is Pattie Cooper-Jones, and I’ve been managing Parkview Gardens for over 42 years. Prior to that I had about seven years in North Carolina property management. I’ve been with CHP for almost 15 years.

What makes this property unique or distinctive within the community?

We’re very well loved by our community. We have excellent police protection here, and I have a great working relationship with the Prince Edward County, with the town of Farmville, and even with our court system and all of our constitutional offices. Those relationships benefit our property. We also have a local agency that will give new residents furniture for their homes at no cost, and a church who brings clothes to the property at no cost for residents. We’re blessed to have this extra help.

Complete, Safe, Well-Loved

What’s the most unique feature of this property that residents love?

The residents love that our property has central heating and air.

Can you share any success stories or positive feedback from residents?

I had a young man who lived here with his girlfriend about 10 years ago and I ended up having to call the police due to a situation at their unit and he was arrested. I saw him earlier this week and he pulled me aside and told me that I saved his life. He explained how his life turned around that night. He is on the right path, married with children, doesn’t drink and doesn’t smoke, and has a job now. Hearing from him made me feel really good. I’m impressed by how he has grown.

I try to teach residents simple things that can help them. My residents love to eat and if they want to learn how to cook, I teach them. I really believe in the saying “If you give a man a fish, he eats for a day. If you teach a man to fish, he eats for a lifetime.”

What is something you like or appreciate about the community?

I appreciate the fact that we have a community room and we can have gatherings. I think it’s important to connect with your neighbors, because you never know who you may need.

What qualities make this property a great place to call home?

We’ve had a lot of work done here. We did a complete rehabilitation in 2012 and we increased the number of bathrooms in a lot of units. We added dishwashers, and we’re replacing the flooring with vinyl plank flooring as it ages. There are a lot of funds invested into this property and a lot of attention to making sure it is decent, safe, and affordable.
