Nestled in the charming town of Davidson, North Carolina, just minutes from Lake Norman and a short drive from Charlotte, Oak Hill Apartments offers a blend of historic appeal and modern living. CHP’s LaToya Brown serves as the Property Manager, and Elvin Velez serves as the Maintenance Technician.
Please introduce yourself and share a bit about your background in property management.
My name is LaToya Brown, and I’ve been with CHP for nearly seven years. I have almost 20 years of experience in property management, with a background in leasing and assistant management in conventional properties. When my previous property was sold, a new opportunity opened at CHP’s Oak Hill, and I was fortunate to join the team.
How long have you been managing this property?
I’ve been managing this property since I started at CHP almost seven years ago.
What makes this property unique or distinctive within the community?
When I first arrived at Oak Hill, I was surprised by this hidden treasure. Before working here, I didn’t realize affordable housing like this existed—housing that truly caters to the average person trying to make a decent living without breaking the bank.
If the property had a personality, how would you describe it in a few words?
Oak Hill is calm and cool.
What’s the most unique feature of this property that residents love?
Our residents, ranging in age from 18 to 60+, are like family; they watch out for one another. They inform me if anything unusual happens to ensure there’s no trespassing and everyone remains safe. We’re close to Davidson College, where Steph Curry graduated, but Oak Hill isn’t student housing. People love the area and appreciate the growth happening around us every day.
Can you share any success stories or positive feedback from residents?
The residents love that we recently got a park directly across the street for kids to play in, and we’re within walking distance of restaurants and grocery stores. We’re also one of the few properties with a pool, so residents eagerly await the season to take a splash. They appreciate how local agencies are always available to provide information on community events, such as summer lunches, dinners at local churches, or rent assistance programs for families in need. The residents at Oak Hill know Elvin and me very well—they’re like family to us, and they know they can count on us for support whenever possible.
What is something you like or appreciate about the community?
Oak Hill is a great place to live. It is located near the Lake Norman/Charlotte area and has beautiful surrounding landscapes. Our community of residents truly appreciates the support Elvin and I provide, as well as the great rates and the convenience of getting around town by bus or on foot.
What qualities make this property a great place to call home?
As our community continues to grow, it only gets better. I hope to continue my journey at Oak Hill, and maybe one day, I’ll celebrate milestones like my maintenance manager, Elvin, who just celebrated 17 years here.
