Community Housing Partners (CHP), which provides affordable and sustainable housing across the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic, was ranked No. 2 nationally on the 2026 Best Nonprofit Workplaces list in the large employer category for organizations with more than 250 employees. The annual program, administered by Best Companies Group, recognizes nonprofit organizations that demonstrate strong workplace cultures and employee engagement. CHP was also ranked No. 25 on the 2026 Best Places to Work in Virginia list in the large employer category.
The national ranking places CHP among the top nonprofit workplaces in the country.
This marks CHP’s fifth appearance on the Best Places to Work in Virginia list, with previous inclusions in 2021, 2022, 2024, and 2025. The program includes organizations from both the private and nonprofit sectors.
Laura Croft, Vice President of Human Capital at CHP, said employee feedback plays a central role in the rankings. “These lists are driven largely by employee feedback, which makes the results especially meaningful,” Croft said. “Being recognized at both the state and national level reflects the effort we continue to put into building a workplace where people feel supported and connected to the mission.”
The Best Places to Work in Virginia program evaluates participating organizations through a two-part process. One portion assesses workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems, and demographics, accounting for approximately 25% of the evaluation. The remaining 75% is based on confidential employee survey responses measuring the employee experience. Combined scores determine which organizations are included on the list, with final rankings announced at an awards ceremony held each spring.
CHP also received industry recognition in recent years, including the Viridiant Multifamily Project or Development of the Year award in 2023 and the Viridiant Builder or Development of the Year designation in 2022.
