Community Housing Partners (CHP), a Virginia-based nonprofit that provides affordable and sustainable housing throughout the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic, has been honored with the Virginia Housing Alliance’s Housing Champion Award.

The Housing Champion Award was presented at VHA’s 2025 Annual Awards Ceremony in Richmond on Oct. 21. The award recognizes “individuals or organizations whose philanthropic achievements have made a significant impact in housing or homeless-services advocacy and education work throughout the Commonwealth and whose generosity inspires others to philanthropic action.”

Andy Davenport, Vice President of Real Estate Development at CHP, attended the ceremony and accepted the award on behalf of the organization. Jeff Reed, CEO and President of CHP, also shared remarks in a recorded video that reflected both on CHP’s legacy and its ongoing commitment to affordable housing.

“CHP was founded on the belief that housing is more than just shelter—it’s a path to health, to opportunity, to community,” said Reed, who also thanked VHA for the recognition. “While this award is a reminder of how much we’ve accomplished in the past, it’s also a challenge about how much more we have to do and how much more we have to accomplish.”

As CHP celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2025, the organization’s track record demonstrates a comprehensive approach to housing affordability. Over five decades, CHP has invested more than $877 million in real estate development and completed 160 housing projects. The CHP portfolio now includes 100 multifamily rental communities across multiple states, providing more than 5,900 homes for families, seniors, and individuals with disabilities.

CHP’s integrated model combines real estate development with critical support services that address housing affordability holistically. CHP’s Resident Services team offers programs supporting housing stability, education, health, and civic engagement. Through initiatives like CHP Reads! Summer Reading Program, which delivered 6,000 books in 2024, and CHP Votes, which promoted civic participation, the organization empowers residents beyond simply providing shelter.

The Energy Solutions division has weatherized more than 55,000 homes across Virginia and trained 43,000 building science professionals nationwide. In 2024 alone, CHP weatherized 3,207 homes, helping low-income residents reduce energy costs while improving indoor air quality, comfort, and long-term housing stability.

Founded in 1975, Community Housing Partners (CHP) provides quality-built, responsibly managed, service-enriched homes for low-income individuals and families across the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic. Through its mission to create homes and communities that are healthy, sustainable, and affordable, CHP has been a leading advocate of affordable housing development for 50 years. CHP’s activities include real estate development, construction, energy services and training, asset management, property management, realty and homeownership, and comprehensive resident services.
