On October 24, 2024, CHP employees came together with a mission: to get 40 children into beds and off the floor. Partnering with Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP), an organization dedicated to providing beds and bedding to children in need, CHP sponsored and participated in a bed-building event to prepare components for beds that SHP will later assemble and deliver to families in the community.

Paul Mele explains the process and purpose of the bed-building event.

Many children do not have a proper bed to sleep in, which can affect their health and well-being. SHP addresses this issue by building and delivering beds to families in need. CHP contributed to this mission by funding the materials for 40 beds, providing the event location, and volunteering to build the bed components.

Stations were set up for sawing, sanding, drilling, assembling, branding, and staining.

Preparation for the event included securing a location and gathering materials. A CHP staff member worked with their church to allow the use of the church parking lot for the build. Employees also donated bedding to accompany the beds once delivered.

Each piece of wood was carefully measured and cut.

The wood was sanded to eliminate any rough edges or splinters.

Pre-drilled holes ensured that the wood didn’t split when assembled.

Assembling frame components required precision and teamwork.

The staining process added durability and a rustic finish to the wood.

Strips of wood were stapled together with straps to form the slats.

By the end of the event, the components for 40 beds were ready to be delivered and assembled at their destinations. Each set of bed components, along with donated bedding, will provide a safe and comfortable sleeping space for children in need.

The event emphasized the value of teamwork and service. CHP is committed to continuing its efforts to help the communities it serves. To learn more about Sleep in Heavenly Peace and how to get involved, visit SHP’s website.
