Mary Hardesty House Apartments
Community Housing Partners (CHP), a provider of affordable and sustainable housing across the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic, has expanded its multifamily rental portfolio with the acquisition of two Virginia properties: Chestnut Square Apartments in Newport News and Mary Hardesty House Apartments in Berryville.
These new properties strengthen CHP’s presence in the Hampton Roads and Shenandoah Valley regions. Chestnut Square features 40 townhomes and brings additional family-focused housing to Newport News, where CHP already manages The Warwick Apartments. In Berryville, Mary Hardesty House offers 60 apartments for seniors alongside CHP’s existing Johnson Williams Apartments.
“These properties are a natural fit within our regional strategy,” said Shaun Rai, Senior Vice President of Multifamily Housing at CHP. “They allow us to build on our existing footprint and bring long-term stability to communities where housing demand continues to rise.”

CHP takes a thoughtful approach to growth, focusing on communities where its presence can make a meaningful difference. By building on existing relationships and identifying areas with increasing housing needs, CHP expands its impact while staying true to its mission.
“We are proud to welcome the residents of Chestnut Square and Mary Hardesty House into the CHP family,” said Paula Williams, Director of Housing for Property Management at CHP. “Our team is committed to maintaining and improving these communities, creating safe and supportive environments where residents can thrive.”
“These recent acquisitions represent more than just growth in units—they reflect our commitment to place-based investment,” said Rai. “As we continue to expand our footprint, our focus remains on supporting residents, strengthening communities, and building a more stable housing future across Virginia.”
CHP will manage Chestnut Square Apartments and Mary Hardesty House Apartments.
