Sixty-three-year-old Kay Foutch lives at Northway Apartments in Galax, Va, but eight months ago, she was living in a mobile home. According to Foutch, “the trailer had little if any insulation and air came through the outlets and windows so that I had to cover them with tape. My electric bill was sky-high because I used electric heaters.”
Foutch commented, “Now that I’m at Northway Apartments, my affordable rent and lower electric bill helps me save money on my housing. Plus, I am closer to stores and doctors so I’m traveling less and saving gas money. I can also use the local transit for transportation for only 50 cents anywhere in the city limits if I’m not feeling well enough to drive. I even get my exercise in because I’m living on the top floor and walking up three flights of stairs. You can’t get much better than that! Basically, I’m happy as can be.”
Northway Apartments Property Manager Gay Zachary said of Foutch, “She’s a real firecracker and we’re happy to have her here. Being able to provide Kay with a healthy and affordable apartment is the whole point of our mission and is the reason why we do what we do.”
