Community Housing Partners oversaw renovations at Cedar Crest Apartments, an affordable townhome community that offers spacious living areas with private yards in Blacksburg, Virginia. All 78 apartments (including six accessible units) were completed in 2021. Virginia Housing provided funding for this $1.6 million renovation effort.
CHP made upgrades to every townhome at Cedar Crest:
Kitchen renovation included new cabinets with additional storage, countertops, new sinks, new faucets, new appliances (in most cases), new garbage disposals, and a custom cabinet shelf with microwave.
Bathroom renovation included a new vanity, top, faucet, toilet, bath fan, and hardware.
All apartments received new LED lighting throughout.
New high efficiency water heaters (in most cases)
New front doors
New back doors (in some cases)
Outside work included a new sealed driveway, substantial renovation to the deck, and pressure washing on the building exterior.
When CHP staff members began planning renovations at Cedar Crest Apartments, they knew that the resident perspective would be a critical part of the decision-making process. In order to engage residents before, during, and after renovations at the 78-townhome community, CHP staff turned to a resident benefit framework developed by the Stewards of Affordable Housing for the Future (SAHF).
CHP not only offers desirable, economical homes to own or rent, but also encourages personal and community success through supportive services and programming. CHP Housing Services includes Asset Management, Homeownership, Property Management, and Resident Services.
