CHP Celebrates National Night Out

National Night Out at Parkview 2018

Each year, multiple communities across Community Housing Partners' (CHP) portfolio organize and host National Night Out events to promote police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie and to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. These events enhance the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while encouraging a sense of community.

This year, CHP communities hosted five National Night Out events in early August with over 350 community members in attendance. (View photos of National Night Out on Facebook.)

Alexis Cox, Property Manager at the Woods at Yorktown in Yorktown, Virginia said, “Our National Night Out event at The Woods at Yorktown was a huge success!”

The property served food and drinks, and Ben and Jerry’s donated multiple tubs of ice cream for the event.

“We organized a lot of activities, like a four square competition, a cake walk, and a three-point shooting contest,” said Cox.

The National Association of Town Watch introduced National Night Out in August of 1984 through an already established network of law enforcement agencies, neighborhood watch groups, civic groups, state and regional crime prevention associations, and volunteers across the nation. The first annual National Night Out involved 2.5 million neighbors across 400 communities in 23 states. Neighborhoods across the nation began to host block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts and various other community events with safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, visits from emergency personnel, exhibits, and much more. Today, 38 million neighbors in 16 thousand communities across the nation take part in National Night Out.

In addition to the Woods at Yorktown Apartments, four other CHP communities celebrated National Night Out, including Parkview Gardens Apartments in Farmville, Virginia; Lafayette Apartments in Williamsburg, Virginia; Kippax Place Apartments in Hopewell, Virginia; and Rivermeade Apartments in Yorktown, Virginia.
