After almost a year of renovation work, construction at Primrose Place Apartments in Baltimore is finally complete. In conjunction with National NeighborWorks Week, Community Housing Partners (CHP) and Southway Builders, Inc. are hosting a dedication event on June 6 from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm to thank the residents for supporting the rehab efforts while the work was performed.
The work, which was completed while the residents continued to reside in the facility, included new roofing; full kitchen and bathroom upgrades; new flooring; EnergyStar light fixtures, appliances, and programmable thermostats; and EnergyStar-rated heating and cooling equipment.
The upgraded facility, located at 820 S Caton Ave., now comprises 125 apartments, in addition to a community room, computer lab, central laundry facilities, and a picnic area.
Funded in part through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Rental Assistance Demonstration program, the cost of the renovation work cost approximately $21.6 million.
“NeighborWorks Week, which is a week-long initiative that CHP and other NeighborWorks member organizations across the country participate in to bring about neighborhood change and awareness through local community improvement and celebration projects, is the perfect time to celebrate the renaissance of Primrose Place Apartments,” said CHP President and CEO Janaka Casper. “This is an exciting tribute to the importance of community and the creation of healthy, affordable, and sustainable places to live for our residents.”
For the second year, the Citi Foundation is NeighborWorks America’s national partner for NeighborWorks Week. In addition to a financial commitment, Citi volunteers are joining forces with NeighborWorks organizations across the country to support various projects during Citi’s flagship volunteer program, Global Community Day, on June 10.
CHP is part of the national NeighborWorks network, an affiliation of more than 240 nonprofit organizations located in every state, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. In 2016, the NeighborWorks network helped 360,000 individuals and families with affordable housing and counseling. The NeighborWorks network was founded and is supported by NeighborWorks America, which creates opportunities for people to live in affordable homes, improve their lives and strengthen their communities.
