CHP Board President Receives Housing Coalition Leadership AwardPosted on Jul 5th, 2011
Christiansburg, Va. – Community Housing Partners (CHP) is proud to announce Jane Henderson, CHP board of directors president and president of Virginia Community Capital (VCC), has been recognized by Virginia Housing Coalition (VHC) with a Housing Leadership Award for her commitment to community development. Henderson began her involvement with Virginia’s affordable housing industry twenty years ago, and in that time established herself as a champion for housing and community development, while also acting as an influential policy maker for how the lending industry supports community-based nonprofit organizations.
During her time as VCC’s president, Henderson led the formation of Community Capital Bank of Virginia, a regulated, nonprofit commercial bank. Through VCC and Community Capital Bank, over a 1,000 new units of housing were constructed and over 2,500 units rehabilitated; nearly 3,300 of those are affordable units.
Henderson has also served on a variety of boards and advisory groups that have regional and national impact, including CHP. She has been CHP’s board of directors president since December, 2009 and has been a member of CHP’s executive committee since 1992. Under her leadership, CHP has expanded its original mission -- to provide low-wealth families with simple home repairs -- into a multi-state corporation offering sustainable development, architectural design, construction, energy services, homeownership, property management, and resident and youth services.
Janaka Casper, President and CEO of CHP, commended Henderson’s leadership in the field, stating, “As President of Virginia Community Capital, and through the many other organizations and individuals with which Jane shares her expertise and experience, she brings a fresh and innovative approach to affordable housing development in the Commonwealth.”
