CHP Announces Distance Learning Partnership With Other National Weatherization Training Centers
Christiansburg, VA – Community Housing Partners (CHP) is pleased to announce a partnership between its New River Center for Energy Research and Training (NRCERT) in Christiansburg and the Association of Energy Affordability, Inc. (AEA) in Bronx, New York to provide long-distance training for the two national weatherization training centers. By making classes available via a live, interactive audio-visual system, NRCERT and AEA will be able to share their class offerings with each other, thereby expanding the number and variety of courses available to students in the fields of weatherization, energy efficiency, and green retrofit.
In addition to offering its own classes for both state and national Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) workers, NRCERT will continue to broaden the list of classes available for distance training. The Distance Learning program is made possible by a grant received from the U.S. Department of Energy to provide remote learning through both an online web-based application and an interactive streaming platform.
NRCERT, established by Community Housing Partners (CHP) in 1999, provides training in state-of-the-art residential energy conservation techniques, home performance testing, and heating and cooling equipment diagnostics, repair and replacement. NRCERT’s 12,000-square-foot training facility in Christiansburg provides the teachers and students innovative space, equipment, and props for a hands-on classroom experience. Since its establishment over a decade ago, NRCERT has trained over 20,000 participants across 25 States and Canada. Its expert trainers are certified by RESNET, EarthCraft, and the Building Performance Institute.
