CHP Recognized by EarthCraft Virginia for Sustainable, Multifamily Housing Development

Christiansburg, Va. – Community Housing Partners (CHP) is pleased to announce that it recently received the 2009 Multifamily Developer of the Year Award from EarthCraft Virginia for demonstrating the largest commitment to sustainable, green multifamily housing across the state.

As a non-profit community development corporation serving the housing needs of low-income individuals and households, CHP designs, builds, and sells affordable, sustainable single and multifamily housing built to EarthCraft standards. Seven years ago, CHP officially articulated their principles of sustainability and made the decision to “go green”; by 2006, they formally adopted the EarthCraft program as a template for the design and construction of all preservation and new construction developments.

CHP was involved in 2 of the initial 3 EarthCraft multifamily pilot projects in Virginia: Yorktown Square II and Cassell Pines. Since then, they have had a role in the development of 12 EarthCraft certified multifamily communities for a total of 882 units of affordable housing across Virginia.

“We are truly honored to be recognized by EarthCraft Virginia for creating quality, affordable homes that are also durable and environmentally friendly,” said CHP Vice President of Multifamily Development John Henry. “…and we remain committed to EarthCraft’s principles of designing
and building energy- and resource-efficient housing in the region.”
