What types of rental housing does CHP provide?
CHP provides a variety of different affordable housing options, but our primary types of housing include multi-family, senior (age 62+), and special-needs housing (formerly homeless and people with physical and/or mental impairments). Please see CHP Rental Communities.

Can I apply for a Section 8 voucher through CHP?
No. Please see Section 8 Vouchers for further information from HUD.

How do I find out if and where CHP has an apartment available to rent?
CHP has almost 6,000 units for rent in seven states (Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Kentucky, and Florida). First, find the community where you’d like to live on the CHP Rental Communities page of this website. Then call the number listed on under the map on a particular rental community page OR click the “Request Information” button below the phone number to email your inquiry.

What is the cost to rent an apartment from CHP?
Rents vary and are different at each property. You may contact the property in which you are interested for more information about rent. Please see CHP Rental Communities.

What does CHP teach in its Homebuyer Education classes?
CHP’s homebuyer education classes include information on credit and personal finance, budgeting qualifying for a home loan, negotiating a purchase, applying for a mortgage, closing a loan, and more.

Can I afford to buy a home?
Maybe!  CHP will help determine the home price you can afford and if you are eligible for down payment assistance. Please see Home Financing.

Does CHP give out loans?
CHP does not provide housing loans or mortgage assistance. Our Homeownership staff can help you find an appropriate loan from lending partners or non-profit organizations. Please see Home Financing.

Where does CHP provide weatherization assistance?

Who is eligible to receive weatherization assistance?
Weatherization assistance is provided by CHP to low and very-low-income residents in centrall, southwestern, and northern Virginia. To learn if you are income-qualified, contact our Energy Solutions department at 540.381.9446 x 5000 or email  dbourdon@chpc2.org.

I need a repair done on my house—can CHP help?
CHP performs emergency home repairs for income-qualified applicants. To find out if you qualify for emergency home repair assistance, please contact our Energy Solutions department at 540.381.9446 x 5000 or email dbourdon@chpc2.org.
