Main Cross Apartments originally underwent an adaptive rehabilitation in 1994 to create 51 apartments for low-income elderly residents. The residences are located on the second and third floors of five different historic buildings along Main Street in the downtown area of Mount Sterling, Kentucky.
Using partial funding from Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) and federal historic tax credits, CHP’s in-house development, architecture, and construction teams undertook another major renovation of the property in 2013 to update the facilities and preserve this unique housing resource for the community. The extensive work, which earned the facility an official ENERGY STAR green building certification, has resulted in improved resident comfort, an increase in the building’s energy efficiency by over 30 percent, and significant savings on residents' monthly utility bills.
