Colin Arnold

Vice President of Architecture

Colin Arnold established CHP Design Studio (formerly Community Design Studio) in 2002 as a community-based design center and full-service architecture arm of CHP. He is an NCARB certified, LEED®2.0 Accredited Professional with more than 24 years of design experience. Colin began his tenure with CHP as a Frederick P. Rose Architectural Fellow, and under his leadership, CHP has completed the design of over 50 projects to create more than 3,200 units of affordable housing in Virginia, North Carolina, West Virginia, and Kentucky. His design work has garnered numerous national awards including a 2014 National Housing & Rehabilitation Association J. Timothy Anderson (“Timmy”) Award for Excellence in Historic Rehabilitation. Colin’s emphasis on green, sustainable design has resulted in several accolades including a 2015 Virginia Housing Award for Best Affordable Housing Energy Conservation Effort, the Federation of Appalachian Housing Enterprises’ (FAHE) 2015 Green Energy Efficiency Champion Award, and a 2016 Viridiant (formerly EarthCraft Virginia) Award for Top Performance Homes of the Year. He is trained as a community design charrette facilitator and has training and experience in Universal Design principles. Colin is also a member of the American Institute of Architects, a board member of FAHE, and a founding board member of the Southwest Virginia chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council. Colin holds a bachelor’s degree in environmental design from Texas A&M and a master’s degree in architecture from Virginia Tech.
