In a 2010 global sustainability report by McKinsey, researchers found that by implementing energy efficiency strategies, end-use energy consumption could be reduced by an estimated 23 percent of projected demand in 2020, while abating up to 1.1 gigatons of greenhouse gases annually. Therefore, this is where CHP focuses its energy--on helping implement strategies to reduce energy use or use energy in the most efficient way possible, starting with a full energy audit.
A home or building energy audit provides a thorough assessment of where a structure is wasting energy and how to save money on utility bills. The most important part of an energy audit is the diagnostic testing, which can include a blower door test and infrared scanning. In addition, a visual and physical inspection is performed by CHP's experienced auditors who check heating and cooling equipment and assess insulation levels in the walls, floors, and attic.
An energy audit also includes a health and safety inspection in which auditors check for carbon monoxide leaks, assess moisture levels, and make sure combustion appliances are operating properly. Based on the results of the energy audit, the auditor will recommend upgrades to the home. Once the upgrades are installed, a homeowner or tenant can typically save up to 30 percent on the home’s energy bill.
CHP Energy Solutions team members are certified by the Building Performance Institute (BPI) and Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET) to perform Home Energy Ratings (HERS), which provide a standard measurement of energy efficiency in both new and existing homes.
