Kamilia Lawson Named 'Top 40 Under 40' in Housing

Christiansburg, Va. – Kamilia Lawson, Director of Homeownership and Principal Broker with Community Housing Partners (CHP) and CHP Realty, was recently selected for a prestigious "Top 40 Under 40" award by the Virginia Housing Development Authority (VHDA) and the Virginia Housing Coalition (VHC). The award was presented during the 2012 Virginia Housing Coalition dinner held June 21 in Richmond, Virginia.

The "Top 40 Under 40" Housing awards recognize Virginia's top professionals under the age of forty who have demonstrated dedication to their community and distinction in their professional accomplishments. The award was established by VHDA and VHC to commemorate VHDA’s fortieth anniversary.

At CHP, Lawson is responsible for leading the organization's homebuyer education and counseling efforts, homeownership lending activities, single-family development, and realty functions. She is a REALTOR® and a licensed real estate broker in Virginia, Kentucky and North Carolina.

“Kamilia almost single-handedly re-launched CHP’s dormant realty business, marketing and selling dozens of quality affordable homes to individuals in our region while also providing them with homebuyer education, pre- and post-purchase counseling, and financial guidance,” said Janaka Casper, President and CEO of CHP.  “She is an excellent candidate for this award because she is passionately committed to teaching homebuyers how to become successful long-term homeowners and generously shares her experience and expertise with industry colleagues.”

Lawson recently became a certified Earth Advantage Broker®, making her the first licensed real estate agent in the New River Valley to receive this accreditation. She is also a certified homebuyer education trainer through the Virginia Housing Development Authority, a certified housing counselor through the Virginia Association of Housing Counselors, and a certified homebuyer and post-purchase education trainer through NeighborWorks® America. In addition, Lawson serves as chair of the New River Valley Association of Realtors’ Down Payment Assistance Program Committee and is a recipient of their Presidential Service Award.
