Morehead, KY – With partners Frontier Housing and the City of Morehead, Community Housing Partners (CHP) broke ground on CHP’s first multi-family property located in Kentucky.
Named in honor of Glenn Boodry, a Frontier Housing Board member for 15 years,
Boodry Place is a 32-unit multi-generational community for elderly households and families with special needs who are below 50% of the area median income. Located in downtown Morehead, KY, these homes will be reserved for these households, who earn approximately $18,000 a year, at monthly rental rates of $300-360.
CHP President Janaka Casper acknowledged the powerful partnerships formed as part of the Berea Performance Compact that resulted in the creation of Boodry Place. “We have a commitment of working together in a thoughtful collaboration to leverage expertise and resources,” Casper said.
The Berea Performance Compact is a Federation of Appalachian Housing Enterprises, Inc. (FAHE) member group initiative that was created to change how organizations do business by collaborating resources and expertise among the 45 member organizations in four central Appalachian states.
In this project, FAHE supplied valuable equity through the Housing Equity Fund of Kentucky, which supports the development of affordable and special needs rental opportunities. Acting as the managing partner, Frontier Housing, the largest non-profit provider of affordable homeownerhsip opportunities in northeastern Kentucky brings their expertise in affordable housing and development in the Morehead area. As a general partner, CHP provides knowledge and practice of green design and construction through architectural and general contracting services. Led by Colin Arnold, CHP’s LEED® Certified Architect, the design utilizes universal design, to promote accessibility for individuals of all ages and abilities. Specific features include a green space with a playground for children of all abilities, and a community space for health screenings and therapeutic services for physical, occupational and speech therapy. In order to provide these services, Community Housing, Inc. (CHI) will manage the property and oversee the needs of Boodry Place residents. CHI serves five counties in eastern central Kentucky, focusing on family services to help household attain and maintain housing.
