dedication on the job

Ken Thornton began full-time employment with CHP in 2010
as a groundskeeper for Normandy Apartments, a 100-unit community located in Jacksonville, Florida. Prior to his CHP employment, Ken worked with CHP as a contractor hired for temporary help at Horizon House and Sunset Apartments in nearby Gainesville.

When CHP took over the management of a severely neglected rental community in Jacksonville last January, Ken proved to be invaluable as he took on the challenge of overseeing its property maintenance when others said it was an impossible task. As Maintenance Supervisor at the depressed Oakland Terrace Apartments, Ken proudly took ownership of his duties, working tirelessly to ensure the property scored well on an all-important HUD-REAC inspection, while continuing to meet the needs of the residents at all hours of the night and day. Ken even attended Crime-Free Housing classes offered by the Jacksonville Sherriff’s Department so that he could to learn as much as possible about helping the property improve its reputation. He also willingly volunteers to assist at other Florida properties when the need
arises.

“Ken is a perfect example of the positive things that can happen when you give a person a
chance to prove himself. His loyalty and dedication to Oakland Terrace and CHP is amazing!” declared Florida’s Regional Property Manager, John Skaro.
