It takes each of us to make a difference for all of us.

a labor of love

Carolyn Mott, Property Manager at Wellesley Commons and
Checed Warwick in Newport News, Virginia, works tirelessly to help secure Section 8 housing assistance vouchers for many of her residents. With these vouchers, residents are
responsible for paying no more than 30% of their income towards their rent. Because the vouchers do not have an expiration date, the program offers financial relief to the elderly residents--most of
whom are on fixed incomes--by protecting tenants against future
rent increases. “We’re a close-knit family, and we don’t want to lose anyone who loves being here just because they can’t afford the rent,” said Mott.
With only a small window of time to apply, and up against
thousands of other applicants, Mott and her staff often log hours on the phone, helping the residents fill out paperwork, and driving them to appointments. Each residence also has to undergo an inspection by the Housing Inspector before they are approved. The whole process can be overwhelming to the residents, but Mott is always
determined to do “whatever it takes” to get them approved.
“I love my residents and will do anything I can to help them, “ said Mott. “If that means hitting redial every minute to get through to an agency or taking a vanload of residents to a program orientation, I’ll do it!”

employee recognition

The Employee Recognition Program offers the opportunity to reward excellent performance by CHP employees. Awards are made once a year. The main criterion for nomination and selection is service – service to our clients, service to work colleagues, service to the communities in which work, and service to the company. The nomination may cite sustained excellent performance throughout the nomination period or may be based upon one or more specific achievements.
