Service is the rent we pay for living.
- Marian Wright Edelman

a labor of love

Carolyn Mott, Property Manager at Wellesley Commons and
Checed Warwick in Newport News, Virginia, works tirelessly to help secure Section 8 housing assistance vouchers for many of her residents. With these vouchers, residents are
responsible for paying no more than 30% of their income towards their rent. Because the vouchers do not have an expiration date, the program offers financial relief to the elderly residents--most of
whom are on fixed incomes--by protecting tenants against future
rent increases. “We’re a close-knit family, and we don’t want to lose anyone who loves being here just because they can’t afford the rent,” said Mott.
With only a small window of time to apply, and up against
thousands of other applicants, Mott and her staff often log hours on the phone, helping the residents fill out paperwork, and driving them to appointments. Each residence also has to undergo an inspection by the Housing Inspector before they are approved. The whole process can be overwhelming to the residents, but Mott is always
determined to do “whatever it takes” to get them approved.
“I love my residents and will do anything I can to help them, “ said Mott. “If that means hitting redial every minute to get through to an agency or taking a vanload of residents to a program orientation, I’ll do it!”

make a difference... join the chp team

Community Housing Partners (CHP) considers its employees one of its most valuable resources. In order to support that resource, CHP provides its employees with comprehensive benefit plans, including insurance, a flexible spending account, personal development opportunities, and retirement savings.

chp key benefits

insurance benefits

CHP offers a variety of individual or family health and dental insurance coverage on a shared cost basis to its employees. CHP also offers long-term disability insurance and life insurance at no cost to the employee.

flexible spending plan

CHP has established a Flexible Spending Plan that allows employees to set aside money on a before-tax basis to cover eligible health expenditures and dependent care expenses. Pre-tax medical and dependent care deductions can increase an employee's spendable cash through reductions in payroll taxes.

retirement package

In order to help our employees plan for the future, CHP offers a 403(b) Savings Plan to employees for retirement savings. The plan offers employees long-term financial security with substantial economic and tax benefits by setting aside part of their total salary on a  before-tax basis for retirement. Eligible employees will also receive a company match to add to these savings.

professional development

CHP encourages employees to participate in continuing education opportunities to increase their knowledge, skillls and abilities. Each department strives to deliver training and educational opportunities to support the professional growth of each employee.
