dedication on the job

Leon Ball is a Master Carpenter in CHP’s Construction Division. He started working with CHP in the fall of 1994 and has routinely
been the kind of employee who will go anywhere and do any type of task that his supervisor assigns to him. Todd Peacock, Vice President of Construction,
described Ball as loyal, reliable and not inclined to take the credit for his actions. Ball’s direct supervisor, Project Manager Kevin Mizell, stated that Ball is an exemplary performer who willingly accepted the challenge to perform the site work portions of two projects on Virginia’s Eastern Shore, a task typically outside the scope of a master carpenter. He successfully installed driveways, culvert pipes, final grading, and storm water management for 19 building lots. According to Mizell, going “above and beyond” is typical for Ball, who also made an extraordinary contribution to a blitz build experience CHP undertook in Blacksburg this spring. He exhibited his truest value by mentoring the dozens of volunteers from Virginia Tech’s Marching Virginians band during the 2-week build in honor of Ryan Clark, who was killed in the Tech shootings. From encouraging words, to a warm
smile, Ball patiently coached groups of students, teaching them everything from framing to flooring. “Words do not express how good Leon was with those students,” said Mizell. Mizell's words were echoed by David McKee, the director of the Marching Virginians band. He told CHP staff that the students were practically fighting over who got to work with Ball during the build. Added Mizell, “Leon’s willingness to do what it takes, his varied skills and his attitude are truly an asset to his company, community, and comrades.”
