Skilled Worker Shortage - A shortage of skilled workers is the number one or two hiring challenge for six of the world's 10 biggest economies.

Increased Home Values - U.S. homebuyers are willing to pay 11 - 25% more for a green home when compared to a similar conventional home. (Ecorate)

Long-term Savings - Up-front cost increases for green buildings range from zero to 2% and lower the expected lifetime operating costs by 20%, which is 10 times the initial investment. (Kats, 2003)

The CREATES (Construction, Retrofitting, and Energy-Efficiency Assessment Training and Employment Systems) regional partnership was formulated out of a $3.8 million U.S. Department of Labor grant to teach workers the skills required in emerging energy efficiency and renewable energy industries. It is a collaborative partnership which includes Community Housing Partners, Virginia Tech, NewVA Corridor Technology Council, New River Community College, Wytheville Community College, Virginia Western Community College, New River/Mount Rogers Workforce Investment Board, and the Western Virginia Workforce Development Board.
