redefining affordable housing
through architecture & design
productive landscapes
As part of its commitment to creating ecologically, economically, and socially sustainable communities,CDS has integrated productive landscapes into its standard design practices for single and multifamily designs. By advocating the use of natural fertilizers, integrated pest management, and native plants, a productive landscape can
lower maintenance costs while reducing use of water and harmful chemicals. Productive landscapes also provide habitat and food for wildlife and offer gathering and exercise spaces for residents.

By weaving together the built and natural environment of a
neighborhood, CDS seeks to strengthen personal and community
responsibility, provide a platform for social interaction and growth,
and foster environmentally-responsible behavior.
